Hope Cemetery Interment Lists

Tombstone transcriptions were completed in 2000 by Mary and Nellie Garrison, then updated on 09-10-2001. Information was also gathered from obituaries and death notifications from local newspapers furnished by the Bonner County Historical Museum. It appears the oldest burial is Cevilla A Sisson 04-10-1896. These lists are the best available information we are aware of on persons interred in the Hope Cemetery. The City of Hope and the Friends of Hope Cemetery are grateful to Mary and Nellie Garrison for their devoted work to provide us with this information. We cannot attest that it is fully accurate and complete, nor can we say that it is not. For burials after these lists were compiled (about 2001), please contact Brent Lockwood, chair of the Friends of Hope Cemetery (friendsofhopecemeteryidaho@gmail.com or 208-290-6892), who will put you in touch with the cemetery sexton. About the directions:

Please note that the directions to the Hope Cemetery given in the second list (files.usgwarchives.net) are inaccurate. Here are accurate directions:

From Sandpoint and points west: Take Idaho Highway 200 east from Sandpoint to Hope. At the first exit to Hope (after milepost 45), take Business 200 past Hope City Hall, the Ice House Pizzeria, and the old Hope Hotel. Just after the hotel, W. Main Street bears left and is steep. Follow it up the hill to the second left (past the cluster of houses), Grandview Avenue, which also bears left and is steep. There is a small directional sign to the cemetery at Grandview. The cemetery is near the end of Grandview Ave. You can't miss it.

If you miss the first turnoff on the west, take the bridge and turn left at the second turnoff (past milepost 46) and follow the directions for coming from Clark Fork and Montana, below.

From Clark Fork and Montana: Take Idaho 200 west to the first exit to Hope and East Hope (after milepost 47). Turn right across the railroad tracks, and left on Wellington Place. As you approach the old brick schoolhouse and the Post Office, slow down. You'll see three distinct roads just at the Post Office parking lot: the one you're on (on the left), a slightly smaller one rising up the hill (in the middle), and a steep driveway (on the right). Take the middle road up the hill, there is a small sign for the cemetery. When it levels at the top, just before you get to the cluster of houses, execute a 180-degree right turn from Main Street onto Grandview Avenue. Grandview is also steep. There is a small directional sign to the cemetery at the corner of Main St. and Grandview. The cemetery is near the end of Grandview Ave. You can't miss it.

If you miss the first turnoff on the east, take the bridge and turn right at the second turnoff for Hope and East Hope (after milepost 46) and follow the directions for coming from Sandpoint and points west, above.
